Plot

"FROM THE BOTTOMLESS WELL OF SECRETS...

"...deep in the heart of the Forbidden Zone, in the mysterious Dry Pit, an object has vanished. It is a simple artifact, yet potent enough to conquer the world. And it has been stolen by an evil wizard named Heenmor.

"Three men of the mystical arts have been sent by the Confederation of Wizards to seek out the renegade, destroy him, and recapture the lethal magic he has stolen. They are a powerful lot... Green-eyed Miphon is a Wizard and skilled healer; ancient Phyphor is learned enough to be very dangerous; and apprentice Garash is impulsive, careless, and some say, amoral.

"Together they will join forces with fierce Rovac warriors to contend with burning battlefields, magic bottles, and dragons run amok - and ultimatly, the traitor and theif who lurks among them."

Setting

A grand and sweeping world of strangness. Underground rivers, storming oceans, and rampaging mountains. The book covers several different settings as the characters quest throughout the land. From Araconch, the volcanic home of dragons, to the Deep South, dangerous breeding grounds for the Swarms, to the civilized lands of the Harvest Plains. Walk with our heros along the phosphorescent beaches of the Chameleon's Tongue.

Characters

The main character is hard to determine but my money is on:
Morgan Hearst: Rovac warrior, dragonslayer, hero, swordmaster, and leader of men.
Miphon, a humble Wizard of the Order if Nin, with limited powers to hear and control the minds of wild things.
Blackwood, accomplished woodsmen and peasant that grows to learn the truths of the world.
Elkor Alish: Rovac warrior, Red Terror, Bloodsword, He Who Walks, Our Lord Despair. Sworn to destroy all wizards.
Garash, a self-important apprentice with dreams of great power.
Phyphor, an ancient Wizard of the Order of Arl, with powers over light and fire.

Overall

This book was enjoyable but very involved. The confrontation with the rogue Wizard was nothing like what I expected and it came only half way through the book. The book grew beyond the simple quest promised on the back until it became an epic tale of heroism and cowardice.
