Plot

Stranded in another dimension...

"Mr. Barstaple was happily following two other vehicles along the Maidenhead road when the suddenly disappeared. His own car skidded wildly on a bend and he found himself hurled unceremoniously into another world.

It proved to be a very fine world - a Utopia - But the Earthlings brought problems to this idyllic new dimension. Their first hit and run driver badly upset the Utopians and Earth germs soon began to take their toll on the population.

The obvious solution was for the Mr. Barnstaple and his compatriots to go home. They wanted to go. The Utopians wanted them to go! But how in heaven would they find the way back?"

Setting

Like most of the books by H.G. Wells, this is set in England and begins in the 20th century. It does not remain there long before the reader is propelled three hundred years into the future. The description of the Present is limited but the Future is conveyed at great length. Grand and splendid as the future sounds it can be conveyed at TOO great a length.

Characters

The main character is Mr. Barnstaple, a disenheartened writer for The Liberal, an entirely pessemitic editorial.

Mr. Peeve is the owner, editor, and writer of The Liberal.

The Earthlings are an unlucky group of travelers that find themselves transported to another dimension.

The Utopians are an advanced race of humans living in another dimension that resembles a perfect future.

Overall

This is an Ok story. The plot stalls once or twice when they writer talks about social issues. The story is a straight-forward tale of how the aggressive natures of men are unsuited to paradise.
