Plot

"In the year 2085, one third of the Earth's population was destroyed in World War IV... in one day. Then a deadly plague struck, bringing insanity and horrible death to anyone over the age of eighteen.

Citizen Marianne O'Hara of New New York, one of the satellite Worlds that are the last outposts of humanity's future, has three choices:

To seek out her lover, who wanders the savage Earth, attempting to heal Manson cultists who pursue death as a sacrament -

To remain at home, protected by her communal marriage -

Or to journey into deep space, find a new world and help humanity start all over again -"

Setting

This story is set in the year 2085. It mostly takes place in an orbiting space station called New New York, but also the East coast of America and once in Africa.

Characters

The main character is Marieanne O'Hara, a hyper-educated member of New New York and catastrophe nexus.

Jeffrey Hawkings, a victim of acromegaly and Marianne's love interest stranded on Earth.

Daniel Anderson, brilliant engineer and Marianne's Husband #1.

John Ogelby, brilliant, cripled engineer and Marianne's Husband #2.

Overall

If you haven't noticed by now, I like to read books few people even know exist. Take this book for example. The Wizard is a big fan of Joe Haldeman but he had never heard of it. I enjoyed this book despite its rarity. The relationships didn't make much sense and character logic tended to stretch beyond believability. My biggest complaint is that just past half way through the book, the POV switches from third-person to first-person for no reason. Also the ending was as expected but written nowhere near as powerful as I anticipated.
