This is an amusing little story that has a lot of high brow humor and inside engineering/programming jokes. This
story is definately not for everyone and after reading it, I'm not sure it should BE for ANYONE. The characters were
static, the plot unrewarding, and the conflict unresolved. The back of the book sells Vidicon as needing the main
character to save the world, but he doesn't.
THERE IS NO REASON FOR VIDICON TO NEED HIM!
He becomes a sort of tempory helper. Sure he gets gradually more involved problems to solve but nothing Vidicon couldn't have taken care of.
The Plot is the true failing of this book. It starts a tale and then leaves it behind once the reader becomes interested. Repeat this about ten times (I stopped counting by then), and the reader quickly stops caring about the side tales since they don't impact the main character in any meaningful way. They become a distraction from the only constant themes in the book: Saint Vidicon's trials in the Hellmouth and the main character's wooing of the love interest. Neither of these plots are handled well, especially with the many interuptions.
